How to fix WordPress Gutenberg blank content blocks

I was looking forward to the new Gutenberg editing interface in WordPress, but experienced a bit of a shock when I installed the plugin. All the existing WordPress posts were now completely blank in the editor. Only the titles still appeared. After making sure the text was indeed still there (it was visible in Code view) I started troubleshooting.

The console on all my posts shows the error “acl_tinyMCE is not defined.”

There wasn’t a lot on this particular error, but a similar error was discussed as a plugin conflict. After some experimentation with plugins, the source of the issue was uncoverd: Advanced Post List. When that was shut off the text reappeared.
