Continue readingBai Yun’s fifth cub was born on August 5, 2009 in the San Diego Zoo. Of course, I’ve been diligently shooting over-the-top-cute screen captures from the webcam ever since. Here are some of the best, in order.
A rare pygmy hippo has reached the ripe old age of three weeks and is thriving at the Taronga zoo in Sydney, Australia. Monifa, (which means “I am lucky”) was very weak when she was born, and could not stand or walk immediately, so she could not be fed by her mother. She has been painstakingly hand-raised by the keepers.
Continue readingThis pot-bellied piglet is about 10 days old, and lives at Domino’s petting farm. We were told that these pigs are mostly used as pets, are very smart, and keep their enclosure clean. There are about 20 of these little critters running around in the pen, and they all sleep together in a long line.

Here’s a photo diary of the as-yet-unnamed female panda cub born August 3 at the San Diego Zoo. The little panda is the fourth cub of Bai Yun, a panda that arrived from China in 1996.
