IE8: Font size problems

Internet Explorer | Troubleshooting

Now that Internet Explorer 8 is out, I'm getting some reports of font-size issues: text that looks fine in all other browsers becomes very tiny. When I check the same pages in my own IE8 with settings right out of the box, the fonts look fine, so I doubt it is a CSS problem. Here are my suggestions for troubleshooting these problems. You'll need to check all the new settings that can cause font-size issues.

  • Go to View : Zoom and check that the zoom is set to 100%.
  • Then go to View : Text Size and check that it is set to Medium. Actually if you are on a very high resolution monitor you may need to increase this a notch.
  • If that did not help, go to Tools : Internet Options, click Accessibility and try clicking Ignore font sizes specified on web pages.

The problem I'm having is that whenever i have to fill in information, the fields are so tiny i cant read anything..and well as when i search for images on google the field is soooo tiny i can't read it and i've tried what you've suggested and it hasn't done anything.

I had the same problem. I think IE8 is a piece of crap! I switched back to IE6. Don't laugh! The fonts are much cleaner, and stay one size, unlike IE8. Worthless crap.

Altering sizes of text when browsing - finally fixed it!!!

I recently got a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7 Home and IE8 and have had annoying issues with only certain webpages being almost unreadable due to incredable small text.

Constantly changing font sizes and zooming in and out is too much hassle on each webpage.

Solution, open IE select Tools/Internet Options - Select Accessibility, then check the box marked 'ignore font styles on webpages' and click OK - BINGO, no more tiny text!

Hope this helps.

... thanks... just noticed this decreased font size in the last couple of days... never had the prob before with IE 8... your first suggestion worked perfectly... something caused the ZOOM setting to settle at 75 %... moved it back to 100 % and all is well!!!... thank you!
