Mandelbulb 3D parameter experiments: Set 3 of 3

This is the third set of variations on one Mandelbulb 3D image.

The full set of variations is displayed below. All of these use Amazing Box, [something], Folding Int Pow, and ABoxVaryScale4d formulas with identical parameters, except for the second position which is filled in by whichever formula I was testing at the moment. The results of these experiments are yours to use and improve on. I usually tried one or two variations for each formula. There are plenty of interesting bits to explore throughout these images, far too many for me to ever do justice to all the possibilities. They also may give you an idea of what the different transformations can do.

Mandelbulb 3D parameter experiments: Set 1 of 3

Last night, starting with this Mandelbulb 3D file, I spent a few hours experimenting with substituting different formulas in one position, holding all other parameters the same.

The results of these experiments are yours to use and expand on. There are one or two variations for each formula. There are plenty of interesting bits to explore in these images, far too many for me to ever do justice to all the possibilities. The images below also may give you an idea of what the different transformations can do. Mouse-over each image to see the filename.

Adobe Presenter not working with Powerpoint 2010?

If you are having problems with Adobe Presenter after installing Office 2010, chances are, Presenter needs to be updated. Unfortunately Presenter won't automatically alert you of this, and I've found that very few people figure out that it should be updated on their own. Often, Flash needs to be updated also. Here's how to update Adobe Presenter and Flash.

Open Powerpoint and click on the Adobe Presenter tab on the Ribbon.

Click the arrow under the Help button and select Updates.

Wait until the updater comes up and let it update everything. This is often only the first of several updates you will have to apply, one at a time. Keep re-running the updater by selecting Update from the Help menu as described above until it no longer finds any updates. I would restart the machine after the last one.

Then check your Flash player version as well. Go to the Adobe Flash Player page and compare the version you have installed to the latest version available for your operating system. If you don't have the latest, download it from the Player Download Center.

Adobe Presenter will not play video

A customer called me the other day with a problem with Adobe Presenter. Video imported onto a slide would not play, no matter whether imported by Powerpoint's insert functions or through Presenter's own import functions.

To fix this problem, first update the Flash player to the latest version.

Visit this page (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) and compare your installed version to the latest version for your operating system. If it isn't the latest, update it by downloading the player from the Player Download Center.

Restart your machine and then open Powerpoint again and try the import again. If it still doesn't work, update Presenter also:

Open Powerpoint and click on the Adobe Presenter tab on the Ribbon.

Sometimes the video will appear but not play automatically. This can be the result a browser security issue, caused by playing the project from the desktop, rather than putting the published files onto a webserver and viewing it using a web URL starting with "http://".

Adobe Captivate 5: Cant copy slides from one project to another?

In Captivate versions up to version 4, it used to be easy to copy slides from one project to another. by simply importing slides from any other project.

But Captivate 5 lacks the import slides feature! However, another way to copy slides is to use copy/paste. According to the documentation it should be possible to open one Captivate file, select and Copy slides in Filmstrip view and Paste them into another project. I've found though, that in some projects you cannot copy slides. The copy command does nothing in some projects, where in others, it acts as expected.

This problem appears to be linked to the existence of a score page at the end of a quiz.

If you are trying to copy slides from a project that contains question slides with a score slide, try turning off "Show score at end of quiz" and "Allow user to review Quiz" in the Quiz Settings pane of the Preferences window. You can always add a score page back in to the new project if you want.
