I installed Eclipse on my home iMac the other day, and everything seemed OK. Then today, suddenly it wasn’t. Not even a splash screen would open – just nothing. No bouncing icon in the dock, just no response whatsoever.

Other IDE’s run fine, and java apps run OK in general. But Eclipse suddenly would not even start up.

Here’s what fixed it:

  1. In terminal:
    $ /Applications/eclipse/Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/eclipse -clean
  2. Wait for the splash screen to go away.
  3. Select a new workspace.
