What is MR?

MR systems are typically shaped like a horizontal tube. A special table slides the patient in and out of the inside of the scanner.

At the heart of the MR system, or the bore, is an extremely powerful magnet. The magnetic field extends all around the scanner in all directions, called the “fringe field”. The fringe field is the area around the magnet that is magnetized.

You cannot hear, see or feel the magnetic field, but it is always there and it is always on.
